What we Did First...
The first two weeks have been great. First and foremost, we
sought to understand the power of narratives. We worked with
understanding that narratives are a simply part of being human--we love
to tell and receive stories on a daily basis. The students worked on
their Memory Maps, which was an assignment that helped them to encounter
the art of telling a good story. At the center of a good story, there
is always problem/trouble.
By the end of the 2nd week, we began talking about how to write an effective central thesis. Like a good narrative with a certain degree of trouble at its center, an essay has a central thesis, an argument to defend with supporting evidence.
